Unde eşti bunicule, uitat printre străini
aruncat într-un colţ de pământ,
ţi-o fi pus cineva o cruce,
fiind român,
sau te-au batjocorit
şi te-au făcut scrum?
Ridică-te din mormânt şi spune,
ce haină e haina în ţara-nstrăinată,
strigă cât poţi să te-audă
Ardealul , Banatul,
ce moş bucovinean ar fi avut Regatul!
De ce te-au schingiuit, biet român
şi tălpile bătute ţi-au fost,
fără hrană, fără apa,
cu capu-n jos?
Ridică-te şi povesteşte-mi,
ce ţi-a făcut străinul
de ce ne-am îndepărtat din nou?
Ce-ţi spun sfinţii în adâncuri,
ce mai face Cernăuţiul?
Where are you grandpa?
Where are you grandpa, forgotten among strangers
thrown into a corner of ground,
did someone put a cross on you,
being Romanian,
or have they mocked you
and made you ash?
Stand up from the grave and say
what cloth is a cloth in the alienated country,
cry as to be heard by
Transylvania, Banat,
what Bucovina’s old the Kingdom would have had!
Why did they torture you, poor Romanian,
and your soles were beaten,
without food, without water,
with head downward?
Stand up and tell me
what did the stranger to you,
why are we removed again?
What saints are telling you in the depths,
how is Chernovtsi doing?
